San Diego lost one of it’s most famous and beloved singers, Candye Kane, to Pancreatic cancer on May 6, 2016. She had been fighting the disease for 8 years. Candye Kane was honored with many awards for her distinctive strong blues voice, her original songs, extensive recordings, and killer bands. She wrote and produced a play about her amazing life. She traveled the world performing, and was beloved in many countries. She was always on the front lines fighting for LGBT rights, and was openly bisexual at a time when most performers were staying in the closet in fear of losing work. She also helped promote body positive self images for women of all sizes, gave strength and encouragement to cancer fighters like herself, and was always in the corner of those who were unfairly treated for any reason. We pay tribute to her talent, service and spirit at South Bay Pride Art and Music Festival with a world-class band made up of her former band mates – Sue Palmer on piano, Laura Chavez on guitar, Jonny Viau on sax, former husband Thomas Yearsley of The Paladins on bass, & son Evan Yearsley on drums. Casey Hensley and Laura Jane will provide the power house vocals for the show. We love you, Candye, and you are greatly missed~!
